Why I Created VetXIR (And What It Taught Me About the Profession)

May 23, 2025

I remember the moment clearly — watching a new grad vet nurse fumble her way through a patient handover, cheeks flushed with anxiety, desperate to do it right. She wasn’t unmotivated. She wasn’t lazy. She was smart, caring, and full of potential — but she was unsupported. No one had shown her how to bridge the gap between what she’d learned in theory and what she now had to do in real-time.

And the worst part? She thought she was failing.

I’ve seen that scene play out too many times over the past two decades — inside clinics, consult rooms, and even corporate spaces. It wasn’t a one-off. It was a pattern. And eventually, I stopped asking “Why isn’t anyone doing something about this?” and started asking “What if I did?”

That’s how VetXIR was born.

The Gap No One Talks About

In our profession, we’re brilliant at giving people knowledge. What we’re not so great at is helping them turn that knowledge into confidence — the kind that lives in your body, in your hands, in your gut instinct.

We hand nurses and techs a textbook or a webinar and expect them to walk into the treatment room ready. But that’s not how growth works. That’s not how confidence is built.

There’s a critical gap between education and execution, and I kept watching smart, capable professionals fall into it — often without support, mentorship, or even acknowledgment.

And it’s not just new grads. Experienced nurses are overwhelmed, under-resourced, and often stretched so thin they stop learning not because they don’t want to — but because they’re just trying to survive the shift.

Why VetXIR Exists

I created VetXIR to fill that gap — with real-world, in-clinic, human-centered training and mentorship that actually meets people where they are.

The name itself is rooted in that mission. In the startup world, XIR stands for Expert in Residence — someone who bridges gaps, connects disciplines, and drives practical solutions. That’s exactly what veterinary professionals do every day. We’re not “just” nurses or techs — we’re clinicians, communicators, leaders, and problem-solvers who operate across every aspect of the clinic.

VetXIR is a name that honors that adaptability. That brilliance. That heart.

What VetXIR Has Taught Me So Far

Since starting VetXIR, I’ve been lucky enough to work with clinics and professionals who are hungry for better — not just for their patients, but for their people. And here’s what I’ve learned:

  • Clinical skills are only half the story. The other half? Confidence, communication, and the permission to grow.

  • Confidence is teachable. You don’t have to be born with it — you just need someone to help you build it.

  • Most nurses don’t need more theory. They need someone to stand beside them and say, “You’ve got this — let’s walk through it together.”

  • Transformation doesn’t happen in a classroom. It happens in the treatment room. On the floor. In the quiet moments where someone feels safe enough to try.

  • Our profession is full of brilliance. We just need better systems to support it.

A Personal Invitation

If you’ve made it this far, maybe something in your clinic — or your heart — feels ready for change. Maybe you're a nurse or tech who wants to feel more capable. Maybe you're a clinic leader who wants to create a culture of support and skill-building.

Either way, I’d love to connect.

VetXIR isn’t a course. It’s not a corporate training package. It’s a relationship. A practical, purpose-driven, real-time support system for the people who keep veterinary medicine moving forward.

Let’s build something that works — for your clinic, your team, and the humans behind the care.
